One of the most important music companies, UMG, works with big stars in pop music like Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift. Even more opportunities have opened up for UMG artists and composers on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Horizon, Threads, and now WhatsApp thanks to the new, expanded deal.
Since the relationship began in 2017, the music business and social media have worked together more closely. The latest fight with TikTok may be the only exception. UMG criticized TikTok for not paying artists and authors enough. TikTok offered them about 1% of UMG’s entire income, but the company thought that wasn’t enough. The companies finally came to an agreement, and the famous platform didn’t lose any of its favorite artists.
Music that has been licensed will be used in short videos and other material on Meta platforms even more. One big change is that music will now be available on WhatsApp. This means that brands can connect with their customers in completely new ways through music. In its statement, UMG did not say how music would be used on WhatsApp, though.
E-commerce marketing brands can take advantage of new music-related chances to get their customers more involved and get to know them better.
Another important point is that the companies want to protect artists’ and composers’ rights against material made by AI that isn’t theirs. The new deal should make sure that artists get paid fairly for their work.
This change in how people work together gives people new ways to use music on social networks and gives brands new ways to connect with their audience through music and get more customers to use Meta platforms.
